Tales of an Old Salt

Julie and her husband Jimmy are both from Medfield, Massachusetts and frequented Cape beaches in the summers growing up.  After graduating from Providence College and moving to Manhattan, the newlyweds were given the unique opportunity to buy a summer home from a friend in Cape Cod.  Since 2012 they’ve traveled back and forth from wherever they lived to Dennis, working on renovating and decorating the house over the years.

Crafty from an early age and with many blank walls to fill, Julie decided to create some art herself, playing with different materials until she got the final shape and texture right of the first Cape Cod map (still hanging in the house today). She received so many compliments about the original piece she decided to share them with others, launching an Etsy page in 2012 and then Old Salt Homes in 2020 - formerly McCloud Nine Design.

Fast forward a few years, Julie and Jimmy now have three kids, two dogs and live in Southport Connecticut.

Her favorite place is Crowe’s Pasture at low tide, in the Jeep.

Traditionally, an Old Salt is an old sailor who is a teller of sea stories. The name Old Salt Homes comes from aspirations of sitting on a drafty porch with a hot coffee, looking at the ocean and telling our stories.
